Jaitley slams Cong for election expenses

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 28 Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Monday said there was a double anti incumbency against the ruling Congress in the State which has made a ugly and vulgar display of wealth since the process started for the Assembly elections to be held in two phases.

Addressing mediaperson here, Jaitley who is visiting Assam to campaign for the partys candidates said that a strong wind of change was blowing in the State and the mandate of the ensuing elections will reflect this change.

Jaitley accused the Congress of spending too much money in the election campaign and without mincing words said that all the money pumped into the election process by the Congress had come from wealth amassed through corruption.

The Congress has two identitiesits one face is corruption and the other face is that of inflation. In Assam too, the Congress government has retained its identity of corruption and such is the corruption level in Assam that even NGOs have started voicing powerfully against the Congress, said Jaitley stressing that it is the duty of every citizen to eliminate corruption and requested the Congress government to listen to this message rather than shoot the messenger.

Jaitley further slammed the Tarun Gogoi government for not taking strong steps to check infiltration.

The Congress is concerned about its vote bank only and so it has neglected the issue of infiltration, added Jaitley pointing out that the Congress has even manipulated the peace dialogues for its political interest.

Jaitley said that conflict-hit Assam required peace and that peace should come through dialogue. Dialogue should not be for vote which the Congress is doing, reiterated Jaitley. On the other hand, the senior leader mentioned that apart from dialogue, if right over natural resources is given to the ethnic population of the North East, several burning problems including that of insurgency could be addressed.

The development agenda has always been neglected in the North East. The region should have the first right to its resources which will change the picture from backwardness to progress, said Jaitley.
