DOOMDOOMA, Oct 25 - Jagadish Bhuyan, former AASU vice-president, former MLA of Sadiya LAC, ex-minister and present BJP leader who fought a 24-year-long legal battle to provide justice to the five ill-fated student members of the Dangari region, who were brutally killed by the Indian Army in a fake encounter, paid floral tributes at the Pancha Swahid Samadhi situated near the Dangari River besides the NH- 37 on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that an Army court recently convicted seven armymen including a major general and two colonels who were involved in this case.
Bhuyan also felicitated the family members of the Pancha Swahid, namely Prabin Sonowal, Pradip Dutta, Debajit Biswas, Bhaben Moran and Akhil Sonowal along with three survivors Gunin Hazarika, Matheswar Moran and Prakash Sharma and two witnesses of the incident.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhuyan said the recent verdict of the Army court would increase people�s faith in democracy and the judicial system of the country.
He recalled the contributions of the advocates of Gauhati High Court Paramananda Pathak, Anil Kumar Bhattacharya, the then Circle Officer of Doomdooma Revenue Circle and present Kokrajhar DC Niranjan Baruah, the then I/C of Talap Outpost Manik Goswami and Dr Hemanta Mahanta in this case.
