NAGAON, June 19 - A literary award christened in the name of social worker and well-known Sanskrit scholar Jadumani Bora was presented to eminent poet Dr Prayag Saikia in a function held here yesterday. Bimal Bora, district president of Asamiya Sahitya Sanmilani was on the chair.
District Secretary of the Sanmilani, Suren Kumar Bora introduced the award winning poet Dr Prayag Saikia to the audience.
Accepting the award, Prayag Saikia informed that his brothers Pranjal Saikia and Arpan Saikia were his inspiration in composing poems. He recalled how he collected books by the pocket money given by his father during his school days.
He thanked the organiser Asamiya Sahitya Sanmilani for selecting him for this prestigious award. The award consists of a gamusa, cheleng, sarai and an amount of cash.
Attending the function, state working president of the Sanmilani, Dr Dilip Borooah elaborated as to how the Sanmilani published a number of books without any donation or support from the Government.
State secretary, Anuradha Sarma, State executive member, Dr Sagar Borooah also spoke a few words.
Vashnavite scholar Tilak Chandra Majumdar, writer Dr Rezaul Karim, Phanindra Nath Gayan, Dr Riseswar Thengal and others graced the occasion.
A number of poets including Siba Prasad Bora and others presented self-composed poems in the function.
The function concluded with the presentation of State anthem, O� mur apunar desh.
