By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 13 A determined unbeaten century by Dhirj Jadhav saved Assam in the Ranji Trophy match against Goa as the match ended in a draw.

On the final day of the four-day match here at the Nehru Stadium today, Assam scored 190 for four when stumps were drawn. Dhiraj remained unbeaten on 102 while captain Gokul Sharma accompanied him till the end with 14.

Earlier Goa, resuming at 286 for eight, were all out for 336 and took a first innings lead of 141. Reagan Pinto was the top scorer with 130 while Amit Yadav contributed 68. Krishna Das and Dhiraj Goswami took one wicket each today.

Assam had a troubled start losing opener Chandan Rawat (8) and number three batsman Sib Sankar Roy (12) cheaply. Two down batsman Sreekumar Nair (9) also failed to last long and Assam were in trouble with 70 for three. But some responsible batting by Tarjinder Singh (31) managed to take their team out of trouble with Dhiraj adding 69 runs for the fourth wicket. Dhiraj also got a good partner in Tarjinder who batted with some responsibility.

Captain Gokul Sharma also batted with patience and remained unbeaten with 14 off 39 balls. It was responsible batting by Dhiraj Jadhav who remained in the crease for 278 minutes and faced 207 deliveries. He hit 11 boundaries in his compact innings which was almost flawless. Dhiraj today showed how to bat in crisis and hardly made any mistakes throughout his innings.

The wicket never looked difficult and Dhiraj batted with comfort and executed all type of shots handling all the opponent bowlers with great deal of determination. Assam batsmen have a lot to follow this batsman. Robin DSouza took two wickets while Saurabh Bandekar and Amit Yadav shared one each.

With todays draw, Goa bagged three points while Assam got one. From two matches now Goa has four points and Assam has three.
