SHILLONG, Aug 1 Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today said certain issues pertaining to a state mining policy still linger. He said those issues have to be addressed first by the (mining and geology) department and only after that the policy would be taken up in the Cabinet for discussion and approval.

One of the lingering issues about the draft mining policy is to allow foreign direct investment in the mining sector of the state. This point is being disapproved by a section of the local miners in the state. They argue that such a move would push them out of business.

He informed said that the mining and geology department would make the presentation on August 16.
