By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Jan 21 - The first edition of Guwahati International Children Film Festival (GICFF) concluded here today with screening of the film Ishu directed by journalist-turned-filmmaker Utpal Borpujari from Assam.

The valedictory session of the GICFF held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium on the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra premises, was attended by Mumbai-based actor Vinay Pathak and filmmaker Vinod Ganatra among other dignitaries.

GICFF was organised by Jyoti Chitraban in association with the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute (DBHRGFTI) with support from the Government of Assam.

Altogether 49 films from 23 countries were screened during the 3-day extravaganza which, according to Pabitra Margherita, Chairman of Jyoti Chitraban, was visited by around 6,000 students from different schools of Guwahati and nearby areas.

At the valedictory session today, the organisers also felicitated the cast and crew of Ishu along with its director and producer.

The film depicts the life of a kid named Ishu from a remote tribal village of Assam. It is based on famous Assamese author Manikuntala Bhattacharjyas novel by the same name. The film takes a look at the still-continuing despicable practice of witch-hunting in Assam through a childs point of view.

The Cake Story, directed by Ruksana Tabassum and casting actor Vinay Pathak, was also screened today. It is a heartwarming tale of Monu and his father who are left to spend the day with each other on his birthday. Director Tabassum, who currently lives in Mumbai, is now working on her feature film for children, which is based in Assam.

Meanwhile, the first Guwahati International Documentary, Short and Animation Film Festival, organised by Jyoti Chitraban, will be held at the same venue with a three-day schedule from tomorrow.
