Irrigation Dept performance reviewed

MORIGAON, June 13 - State Irrigation Minister Ranjit Datta visited several areas in Mayong and Baha subdivisions on Sunday where irrigation schemes are being implemented within Morigaon district and took stock of the performance by his department.

Later, the Minister formally inaugurated the new Morigaon Division Irrigation Office building constructed at the cost of Rs 35 lakh. An open meeting was held on the occasion which was presided over by Luit Hazarika, Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department.

Addressing the gathering, Datta said that due to sincere efforts of the staff and employees of his department, 49 irrigation schemes are effective in Morigaon district as on date. The department has chalked out more schemes in Morigaon district so that the poor and marginal farmers may get adequate water to irrigate their fields.

He further said that outdated schemes will be completely overhauled and an additional amount was earmarked for the purpose. All the top officials of the Irrigation Department attended the meeting.
