GUWAHATI, March 2 � The Irrigation Department came in for harsh criticism from the Opposition today which termed it as a white elephant serving the needs of contractors alone.
Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks on the Governor�s speech, Manowar Hussain (AIUDF) said that crores of rupees had been shown to be spent on paper with little visible impact on the ground. �The Irrigation Department is providing benefits to the contractors only, which exposes the Government�s approach and attitude. It is shocking that such an important department crucial for agricultural success has been managed in this manner,� he said.
