IRCS gesture to Manipur widows

IMPHAL, Feb 15 � The Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur branch has announced to grant an interest-free loan of Rs. 10000 to the state�s widows whose husband were killed in the ongoing armed conflict.

Addressing a group of media persons on Friday afternoon at Manipur Press Club in Imphal, the president of Red Cross Society Manipur branch Y Mohen said that the move will provide an economic impetus to financially backward widows while addressing their respective economic issues.It can also help in livelihood of the widows who faced many struggles after the death of her spouses.

For the said interest-free loan, anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Chanu Sharmila has also made a contribution of Rs 3 lakh and Rs 1 lakh each have been contributed by one S ongbi Premi, wife of late Krishnadas of Keishampat and Manipur branch of Red Cross Society, he continued. He also informed that the loan amount would be recovered without interest, from the individual loanee, on a monthly instalment of Rs 500.

Any member of women-led organisation formed by widows whose husband have lost their lives in the ongoing armed conclift situation in Manipur can avail the opportunity, he added. Those widows who are not in any organisation can also enrol for their membership to �Manipur Conflict Widows Organisation� to avail the loan. The first batch of 50 widows would be presented the loans on February 20. Interested widows can get the detail information from the office of Indian Red Cross Society Manipur Branch located at MG Avenue, Thangal Bazar in Imphal, he said.
