Iranian delegation visits Tocklai Institute

GUWAHATI, Nov 25 - A six-member technical delegation from the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran arrived at the Jorhat-based Tocklai Tea Research Institute of the Tea Research Association (TRA) on Monday.

The team comprising scientists from that country�s Ministry of Health and Food Standards has come to attend the first meeting of the Indo-Iran Joint Working Group on maximum residual limit (MRL) of pesticides and tea standards that was formed in February 2015 after the visit of the high-power Indian delegation to Tehran, said TRA secretary Joydeep Phukan.

The Joint Working Group between the two countries, which consists of Dr AK Barooah of TRA Tocklai, Dr B Bera of Tea Board of India and S Patra of Indian Tea Association from India and Nastaran Mohammadi, Solmaz Choobaki, Roya Nourbaksh and Alireaza Nikkar from the Government of Iran, will deliberate on tea MRLs and tea standards.

On the sidelines of the meeting, TRA Tocklai showcased the scientific work done at Tocklai to the visiting delegation. A detailed presentation on good agricultural practices and good manufacturing practices followed by the Indian tea industry as recommended by TRA Tocklai was given to the delegation.

The meeting is also being attended by AK Das, Deputy Chairman, Tea Board, Arun N Singh, Chairman, TRA, AK Bhargava, Chairman, ITA, CS Bedi of Rossell Tea and senior officials from the Tea Board, TRA and ITA, Phukan said.
