IPV vaccination programme at Udalguri today

UDALGURI, Dec 15 - The Inactivated Polio Virus (IPV) vaccine wll be administered from tomorrow in all the districts of the State including Udalguri district. A press release from NHM, Udalguri informed that the vaccination for the infants aged 14 weeks would be launched at Orang BPHC by Sadhana Hojai, deputy commissioner of the district. The programme is targeted to cover all the children of the said age in the district with an intention to make the district totally polio free as part of the government�s polio eradication strategy, she added.

It is to be noted that IPV is a result of deliberations on World Health Assembly held on May 26, 2012 which declared ending polio a �programmatic emergency for global public health�, Thus, the WHO called for 126 countries including India to protect the children against polio with the introduction of the IPV in 2015.
