NEW DELHI, May 30 � Bongaigaon Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited�s (BRPL) MS quality improvement and diesel hydrotreater project is among three new ventures being implemented by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) at a cost of over Rs 45,000 crore, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, RS Butola said here today.
Addressing a press conference, the CMD said that riding on a robust performance driven by the highest ever sales of petroleum products and high capacity utilisation of refineries and pipelines, the Corporation has posted significant gains in new business areas of petrochemicals and gas. The year was marked by registering the highest-ever turnover of Rs 3,28,744 crore.
Overall sales of petroleum products grew by 3.9 per cent and surpassed the industry growth rate. Capacity utilisation of 102 per cent was achieved. Pipeline throughput of crude oil and petroleum products grew by 5.4 per cent, he said.
The CMD, however, hinted at the possibility of another hike in the prices of petroleum products soon because of the massive under recovery.
Butola said that many projects were commissioned during the year including quality improvement projects at Guwahati, Barauni and Digboi refineries.
Replying to a question about short-supply of fuel and adulteration at the retail outlets (RO), the CMD said that they have initiated a number of measures including automation of the ROs. At least 50 per cent of the ROs is proposed to be automated. Issues like quality, supply would be monitored online in real time basis.
On allegations of short-supply of fuel at ROs, he said every outlet has been directed to keep a 5 litre jar, so that a customer can measure in case suspicion arises.
