IOC conducts emergency mock drill at Silchar

SILCHAR, Oct 15 � An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) at their Ramnagar depot here on Tuesday. KV Nela, the senior depot manager (IOC) said that the drill is a part of their regular exercise conducted every six months.

The drill was conducted in association with the State Fire Services and in the presence of the Factory Inspector SK Dey. Inspector of State Fire Services Ramchiary was also present during the drill.

In a bid to assess the emergency response preparedness and the response time and preparedness, the drill involved as many as 50 participants from the IOC and the State Fire Services. The mock drill started with hooting of the emergency siren. Among the LPG tanks, tank no. II was taken as the epicentre of the fire. All the officials and IOC employees were seen rushing to the spot and they combated the fire. The fire combat team also joined and the fire was brought under control after 40 minutes. The clear signal and siren was blown. Thereafter, the combating teams, rescue teams and auxiliary teams reported to Chief Emergency Controller cum location in-charge and reported that there were no causalities.

On the other hand, a live fire fighting exercise was also carried out alongside the drill. The demonstration was carried out in the truck parking area inside the depot premises.
