Interpol notice for arrest of BNP leader

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, May 15 Meghalaya DGP today said he has received an Interpol notice for the arrest of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader, Salahuddin Ahmed, but the nodal agency for Interpol in India CBI has not formally filed a chargesheet.

There has been no charge sheet, but CBI has said that an Interpol notice has been issued against Ahmed and we are looking into the case, he said.

He said police is treating the case of detained joint secretary general of BNP as any other normal case. Speaking to The Assam Tribune, DGP Rajiv Mehta said Ahmed would be produced in Court like any other detainee for illegalities he committed.

Ahmed has been booked for illegal entry into India without valid documents. This is just another case. He (Ahmed) would be produced in court once he is fit, Mehta said over the phone.

Mehta further said that Ahmed is recuperating in the Shillong Civil Hospital for heart ailments and once he is fit to be produced in Court he would be there.

Meanwhile, several members of the Ahmed family have arrived in the State Capital to meet him. Without being quoted, they say that they are a bit apprehensive about the case as there is growing fear that Ahmed would be a victim of political vendetta.
