International music event on Feb 8

GUWAHATI, Feb 2 - The third Guwahati International Music Festival to be held at the Pragjyoti ITA Centre for Performing Arts here on February 8 will feature various programmes from classical guitar workshops to lecture-cum-demonstrations on indigenous folk music and from mesmerising performances of musical strains from the other side of the globe to soul-captivating jugalbandis of musical maestros.

Organised by Eastern Beats Music Society in collaboration with the North Eastern Council, Government of India, the event will witness performances by more than 150 artistes from five countries, said Aiyushman Dutta, secretary of Eastern Beats Society.

Some of the artistes in this year�s line-up include eminent classical guitarist and composer Matt Bacon from the USA, Thailand-based guitar maestro Padet Netpakdee, radical Sufi and jazz musician Manmohan Thapaliyal and Jazzmandu (Nepal/Canada), and three-time Grammy-nominated Naga folk fusion band Abiogenesis.

The festival will also showcase a unique orchestra of 100 sitars led by Hem Hazarika followed by unveiling of his newly-developed musical instrument Hem Veena. Rock bands like Cultivators and Doorbin will also perform.
