GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - The 2nd edition of the RGS International Open Rating Chess tournament is all set to begin at the Royal Global School here from Sunday.

Already over 200 players from across the country, including IM and GM elect N Srinath of Chennai representing Air India, has registered to take part in this six-day tournament with a total prize money of rupees 5 lakhs.

The tournament is being organised by the Assam Chess Club in association with the All Assam Chess Association (Adhoc Committee) and Guwahati Chess Association and has been recognised by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metro will inaugurate the event on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm in the presence of Bharat Singh Chauhan, chairman, Commonwealth Chess Association, deputy president, Asian Chess Federation and CEO, All India Chess Federation.

International arbiter Debashish Barua of West Bengal will officiate in the tournament as the chief arbiter. All together 10 rounds will be played under classical time control in Swiss league format. Registration for the tournament will end on 17th October, stated a press release.

City boy to play in World Youth Chess Championship: Manthan Kashyap Datta of Delhi Public School will be representing India in under-10 category of the World Youth Chess Championship to be held at Porto Carras, Halkidiki, Greece from October 24 to November 6, stated a separate press release.
