JORHAT, July 7 - An intern doctor of JMCH is among 20 found positive for Covid-19 today. All of the 20 positive cases do not have travel history.
Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati informed that an intern (a lady) of JMCH was admitted to the Covid-19 ward of the institute after she tested positive today. Her identity was not disclosed.
JMCH Superintendent Dr Purnima Barua, who is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology department and also Nodal Officer of Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, JMCH told this newspaper that the intern, who was on duty at the Orthopaedics department, on Monday reported of having fever following which her swab sample was collected and was kept in isolation.
Dr Barua said that today after the intern tested positive the process of contact-tracing and collection of swab samples was under way.
The Deputy Commissioner, meanwhile, stated that among the rest 19 found positive, 17 people were linked to the bakery and the spice-factory positive cases, which were first detected on June 28 and later several were found from contact-tracing.
The 17 positive persons were from Rajamaidam Kalistan locality and adjoining Rajamaidam New Colony area.
Korati said other two positive cases were of two policemen whose swab samples were taken after two constables of the Jorhat SP�s office had tested positive on July 3. The results of two cops came out a few days after the test results of the SP and all officials and employees of the office were found negative last week.
The Deputy Commissioner said that total number of positive cases now stands at 244 in Jorhat with 88 active cases (49 in JMCH and 39 at IAF Hospital at Rowriah).
Korati further said that targeted swab samples collection was on in different busy commercial establishments of the town to check for community transmission.
She further informed that except pharmacies and hospitals and other exempted emergency services, other establishments offices, will remain closed during the lockdown period declared by her in the capacity of District Magistrate in Jorhat Municipal Board areas from 7 pm of July 9 to July 15.
