Inter-varsity NSS camp begins at Gauhati University

GUWAHATI, Jan 8 - An inter institution NSS camp on leadership and personality development organised by the Gauhati University NSS Cell in association with the Regional Directorate, NSS, NE Region, Guwahati, got under way today at the GU.

Around 200 NSS volunteers from Dibrugarh University, Bodoland University, Assam Agricultural University, Asian Institute of Nursing, Tezpur University, Assam Don Bosco University and Gauhati University are taking part in the camp.

Inaugurating the programme at the GU PD Seminar Hall as chief guest, Prof Birinchi Kumar Das, Vice Chancellor of Bhattadev University spoke on volunteership and its impact on society. He urged all the volunteers to contribute in nation building.

Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, NSS, NE Region gave an introduction to the camp and said that the camp could familiarise the youths with the qualities and skills required to become good and disciplined citizens and create a sense of responsibility towards society.

Guest of honour Dr HK Nath, Registrar GU, urged the volunteers to devote themselves to socially useful activities and not to waste their valuable time.

Prof Dilip Borah, Secretary, University Classes GU, remembered his earlier association with NSS and said that apart from academic activities, co-curricular activities are also equally important in the growth of the students.

Earlier in his welcome address, Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director, Students Welfare GU, spoke about the importance of NSS in society through development of personality and leadership qualities and character formation.

Also present on the occasion was Sunil Basumatary, former Regional Director, NSS, NER.

During the camp the NSS volunteers will be trained in various aspects like peace and nationalism, life skills, personality development, career building, etc. The camp will conclude on January 12.
