Inter-school quiz competition organised by Goalpara district police

GOALPARA, Aug 14 - An inter-school quiz competition was organised by the Goalpara district police as a part of the 72nd Independence Day celebrations with the theme �Mera Bharat Mahan� here at the Natyasurya Phani Sarma Bhawan on Sunday.

A total of 84 teams comprising students from 46 different schools from across the district tested their knowledge in the preliminary rounds from which only six teams were chosen for the finals.

The quiz was brilliantly hosted by quiz master Chiranjib Gam who is also a faculty of the Directorate of Training, Assam Administrative Staff College.

The team from the Sainik School Goalpara won the 1st prize while Kendriya Vidyalaya, Goalpara bagged the 2nd prize and Kalpana Chawla Memorial Academy bagged the 3rd prize.The winners will be awarded certificates and trophies.

Earlier, Additional l SP Navneet Mahanta welcomed all the invitees and guests and highlighted the theme �Mera Bharat Mahan� and spoke on the essence of unity in diversity and the greatness of India as a unique country.

Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka who inaugurated the final round of the quiz competition thanked the entire team of the district police and in particular SP Amitav Singha for doing a commendable job in organising such an event at the district level while extending full cooperation from the district administration side for organising any events in future. She recalled the valour and sacrifices of many who laid down their lives so the people can now enjoy freedom and independence and she stressed that we should never forget their sacrifices. She also referred to another theme �Unity in diversity� which has been adopted for the 72nd Independence Day and mentioned that the district of Goalpara is a great example of tolerance.

She also referred to the plantation drive which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on July 27 last and informed that the target for planting of 12 lakh tree saplings in the district has been achieved.

Offering the vote of thanks, SP Amitav Singha praised all the guests, students and school authorities, the district administration, his entire police team and audience for extending their help and cooperation for making the event successful.

Extended Gram Swaraj Abhijan: The district administration has informed that under the extended Gram Swaraj Abhijan the district of Goalpara has achieved 100% saturation in three key schemes under financial inclusion, a DIPRO press release stated.

The release also mentioned that the three schemes under financial inclusion are : Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jibon Jyoti Biman Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). Against the target of 20,341 accounts covering all the 289 villages, 23,851 accounts have been opened under PMJDY thus achieving 114.86% saturation. Under PMJJBY, 17,412 persons have been covered by insurance, even though the target was 16,949 thus achieving a saturation of 102.74% while 102.58% saturation has been also achieved under PMSBY too covering insurance of 27,818 persons against the target of 27,118 persons. Moreover, under Mission Indradhanush , the Department of Health & Family Welfare has already covered 100% saturation, the release added.
