Inter District, State TT starts today

GUWAHATI, Nov 2 � The 58th Inter District and State Table Tennis Championship in memory of freedom fighter Sitaram Agarwal will begin tomorrow at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here. All arrangements to stage the meet have been completed, said Assam Table Tennis Association secretary Tridip Duvarah.

Four hundred players and officials from 13 districts, including Silchar, will take part in the meet and all the teams have arrived in the city this evening, said Duvarah.

The AATA has set up 10 new Stag boards for the competition, including 2 show courts in the centre. Director General of Sports Authority of Assam Pradip Hazarika will inaugurate the meet on November 2 at 9 am. Duvarah said that top ranking players of the State will play in the championship. The players will be accommodated in 2 wings of the stadium and food at subsidised rates will be made available to the players at the tournament venue, Duvarah added.
