GUWAHATI, Dec 25 - A joint inspection team comprising officials of the Kamrup Metro district administration, police and excise department conducted a series of sudden inspections at various bars and restaurants in the city last night.

Officials said the inspection team was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro RP Barua.

The inspections, which continued till late in the evening, were conducted at bars and restaurants at a number of localities. Some violation of Excise rules were noticed in a few of the establishments and departmental action has been initiated against them, said an official.

The drive came just a day after the Kamrup Metro district administration directed all bars and restaurants in the city to strictly adhere to excise norms and other relevant rules and said that in case of any lapse on the part of such establishments, action including cancellation of trade licence would be initiated.

A meeting, under the chairmanship of Kamrup Metro DC Dr M Angamuthu, was held with owners and representatives of bars and restaurants of greater Guwahati area on Wednesday to formulate a set of guidelines for such establishments.
