SILCHAR, Aug 28 - Innovation is a team work, feels Dr Ravikrishnan Elangovan, Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
Talking to The Assam Tribune on Tuesday, on the sidelines of delivering his talk on �Role of Partnerships in translating diagnostic innovations� at the one-day innovators� exhibition and workshop organised by Innovation Club, Assam University Silchar, Dr Elangovan said, �while we have been obsessed with the notion that innovation is a one-man effort, it is actually a team work and best results are achieved when a partnership excels. India is such a diverse nation that if potentials from different places gel together as cohesive units to foster any innovative work, phenomenal results could be achieved.�
Further, the associate professor from the Department of Bio-Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology said that students must look to partner their innovative acumen instead of trying everything on their own, since partnentship of knowledge is a much needed requirement to translate innovation from the lab to the end users. He was however, quick to react that with overemphasis on knowledge dissemination, India has a long way to go in terms of becoming a powerhouse of innovators. �A well-defined problem is actually the problem solved. Efforts are being taken to reach to the application of the knowledge for the society and with such young and dynamic resource pool, innovation shall reach great levels in the days ahead,� he maintained.
Earlier, Prof RR Dhamala, the Vice-Chancellor in-charge of the varsity welcomed the initiative and expressed her best wishes to the participating teams from different schools of Barak Valley. �The innovation club started it�s journey back in 2013 and since then, the club has been working hard to encourage young talents. Each one of us invent things to meet challenges in our daily life. We must be aware of our inner strengths and learn to channelise ideas for the use of the society at large,� Prof Dhamala said.
Dr Mohammad Ahmaruzzaman from NIT Silchar presented a talk on water pollution and it�s treatment while Dr Rajarshi Ghosh from Department of Chemistry, The University of Burdwan spoke on invention and innovation: global perspectives.
Prof Sk Jasimuddin, coordinator of the exhibition and workshop delivered the welcome address.
Meanwhile, students from as many as 36 teams from different schools across Barak Valley took part in the competitive event, demonstrating their models on different themes of innovation.
Beacon Junior College, Badarpur clinched the senior level competition between class XI and XII while Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya Ramnagar won the junior level title.
