GUWAHATI, July 31 Senior BJP leader LK Advani on Tuesday stated that Congress collusion of Bangladeshi influx is the root cause of recurring violence in Assam and appealed to all parties for a national consensus on a four-point solution that also include update of the NRC at the earliest.

Addressing media persons here, Advani warned that if timely action is not taken, Assam would be facing the same situation as the Kashmiri Pundits and he called upon the Congress Government to do an honest introspection over the recent violence in Kokrajhar and other districts.

The Prime Minister, the Congress president and the Chief Minister of Assam need to do some honest introspection on where the guilt lies. Arent they guilty of persistent, conscious and deliberate inaction in the face of the root cause of the conflictsnamely the massive influx of Bangladeshis into Assam including the Bodo areas, asked Advani.

Advani regretted that the Congress Government has not honoured the Supreme Court directive regarding infiltration in Assam after the scrapping of the IMDT Act in 2005.

The situation is very distressing. The Bangladeshis have embarked on a land grab mission and the indigenous people are feeling threatened in their own land as they are losing control over land. The Bodo community is feeling marginalized in their own land and the demographic change in entire Assam has instilled insecurity in the natives, observed Advani pointing out that if the problem of infiltration in Assam is not checked, it would pose a serious threat to the unity, integrity and security of India.

Advani clearly mentioned that the problem Assam is facing is not a Hindu vs Muslim conflict. He said that it was a conflict between Indian nationals vs foreigners.

We believe that a distinction must be made between native Muslims in Assam and foreigners who have infiltrated into Assam and other parts of India. The latter cannot claim protection, much less the same rights as Indians, Hindu or Muslim, tribal or non tribal.

The four-point solution put forward by the BJP leader includes preparing an updated NRC by deleting the names of non-citizens from the voters list of Assam and upholding the non-violability of the tribal belts and blocks in Bodo areas.

The time has come to find a durable and effective solution to the problem of infiltration in Assam, he concluded.
