GUWAHATI, April 24 - Gauhati University in association with SECONE Society and Botanical Society of Assam is organising an Industry Academia Conclave as part of the 60 years commemorative celebration of Oil India Ltd (OIL).
With a legacy traversing three centuries from the commercial discovery of crude oil at Digboi in 1889 and independent India�s first oil discovery in Naharkatiya in 1953 � all in the Northeastern state of Assam � OIL was born on February 18, 1959 and has pioneered in the field of exploration and production of hydrocarbon.
�While continuing its pioneering role in the century-old saga of hydrocarbon exploration, it has incessantly contributed to the economic growth of Assam. While continuing its core business, OIL has also given special emphasis on carrying out its duties as a responsible corporate citizen,� said a statement on the occasion.
The conclave aims to provide an opportunity for strengthening the industry-academia as well as social bonding. It will also give scope to students, researchers, lawmakers, professors, social scientists as well as the common people to interact with corporate personnel to understand the initiatives taken up by OIL in technical and social fronts.
The day-long conclave, to be held at the Birinchi Kumar Baruah Auditorium of Gauhati University from 10 am on April 26, will be inaugurated by GU Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika. OIL Chairman and Managing Director Utpal Bora will grace the occasion as the chief guest. More than 1,000 participants have so far registered for the conclave from various universities, institutions and colleges of the Northeast.
