Indo-Myanmar border meet gets underway

IMPHAL, July 6 � The 7th Indo-Myanmar Regional Border Committee (IMRBC) meet is underway at Assam Rifles complex at Mantripukhuri here.

The Myanmar delegation led by Major General Min Naung, Commander, North West Command accompanied by 18 military and civilian officials arrived here on Monday for the regional border meet.

The delegation would be interacting with Indian Army team led by Lt General Bipin Rawat, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps, PRO Assam Rifles(South) said in a press release. The Indian delegation includes senior officials of Assam Rifles, Ministries of Defence, External Affairs and Home Affairs.

�The bonds of friendship between Myanmar and India have been made stronger with the conduct of Regional Border Committee meets, which are conducted biannually,� the release added.

The meeting would enhance existing mutual cooperation and confidence building between the two armies deployed along the international border. Indian Army will also discuss the proposed plans of training Myanmar Army and Police force in their capacity building.

Discussion on the current security situation along the Indo-Myanmar border is also on the agenda of the meeting. The meeting is considered significant from the point of collectively dealing with the insurgency in Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

Later, the Myanmar delegation will visit Bodh Gaya and Kolkata before returning on July 10, it added.

The 6th IMRBC meet was held at Headquarters of Special Regional Command, Kalay in Myanmar�s Saigang Division from February 4-6 this year.
