Indo-Bangla repatriation treaty urged

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 � Voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) has demanded an announcement from the Prime Minister during his NE visit beginning from tomorrow, in favour of inking speedily a repatriation treaty with Bangladesh to facilitate deportation of the illegal Bangla migrants, besides opening the Brahmaputra waterway for cargo vessels via Bangladesh.

Speaking to this newspaper, SGBG president Dhiren Barua while welcoming the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the NE region, expressed the hope that the visit of the Prime Minister would help a lot in resolving a number of burning issues confronting the region.

The region also needs a comprehensive package to solve its problems of stymied economic growth, flood and erosion, insurgency, unemployment, transportation bottle-neck, among others, he said.

It is the expectation of the NE people that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be able to provide the desired leadership in resolving all such issues speedily, said Barua.
