Indo-Bangla project to record 1971 War

TEZPUR, Oct 14 � After 43 years of Bangladesh�s War of Liberation, a project is under way to document the facts and document the historic events of 1971, which, among others, will also record the contributions of the people and the Government of India.

The India-Bangladesh History Project, led by Haroon Habib, a leading Bangladesh freedom fighter and well- known writer and journalist, will document the historic role of the people and the Government of India, the governments and the people of the States of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and West Bengal, the role of political parties, the armed forces, BSF, various organisations and the mass media, etc., in the 1971 war.

The project is supported by the India-Bangladesh Foundation (IBF), the official body formed in February 2013 with the objective of fostering bilateral relations, for greater understanding between the people of the two countries.

Under a central board of editors, comprising eminent personalities in India and Bangladesh, the project will bring out publication of the historical documents in several volumes. Eminent Assamese personality JP Saikia, a recipient of the Friends of Bangladesh Liberation War Award, is in the central editorial panel of the project from Assam.

Haroon Habib, the chief editor and coordinator of the project, has requested all concerned persons and organisations of Assam and Meghalaya, which were under the same administrative umbrella till 1971, to extend all possible support to make the project a success.
