Indira Gandhi�s death anniversary observed

IMPHAL, Oct 31 - The Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas was observed across the State today to mark the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The State-level observance was held at the conference hall of the Manipur Secretariat (South Block) with Chief Minister N Biren Singh as the chief guest.

The Chief Minister remembered Gandhi�s contributions towards safeguarding the integrity of India and taking the country forward.

Urging the people of the State to take the pledge to strengthen the unity and integrity of the country by following Gandhi�s ideals, Biren Singh said that the former Prime Minister was an outstanding and dedicated leader who was also a prominent international figure.

In his speech, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar stated that the strength of the country lies in its unity. On her death anniversary, the present generation must appreciate Indira Gandhi�s role in nation building and maintaining unity, he said. Ministers, MLAs and high-ranking civil and police officers also attended the function.

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (I) also observed the day in the morning with former Chief Minister and CLP leader O Ibobi Singh and MPCC(I) president TN Haokip paying floral tribute on the photo of Indira Gandhi at the Congress Bhavan here.

Meanwhile, honouring the priceless contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel towards unifying the country, the State also observed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at the parade ground of 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion, Imphal, today.
