GUWAHATI, Dec 18 The Guwahati Senior Citizens Association (GSCA) has condemned the inefficient and lackadaisical handling by agencies concerned of the State Government in counter-foiling the rapacious designs of some bogus companies including financial and educational institutions in duping the people.

The association in its meeting held on Saturday under the presidentship of veteran journalist DN Chakravartty expressed the view that a large number of people of the State including students had for long suffered financial losses falling easy preys to the deceitful but attractive plans and policies of fraudulent companies who had spread their network throughout the State.

Several members including Khanin Das, Tabiul Hussain, Madhavananda Bardoloi and Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, while participating in the general discussion, expressed dissatisfaction at the inefficient functioning of the departments like prevention of economic offence and other departments concerned in tackling the problem.

The members mentioned that several institutions carrying big banners of various kinds of financial management and hotel management institutions had robbed the general public to the tune several crores of rupees every year.

The association urged the State Government to officially authorize local senior citizens associations to oversee the credentials of such organizations so that the general public did not have to fall victim to the designs of frauds and cheats from within the State and outside.

The meeting earlier paid homage to Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami, Ambika Charan Choudhury and megastar Dev Anand.

Ramanikanta Deka, working president of the GSCA, described Dr Goswami as a great human being.
