Indian paddlers shine in world championship

GUWAHATI, March 30 � The Indian men and women teams put up a stellar show in the World Championship at Dortmund, Germany.

Indian team manager Tridib Duvarah said from Dortmund over telephone that last night the Indian women�s team defeated Brazil 3-2 while the men team downed Iran 3-1. Today, the women team got the better of Slovakia 3-2 while their men counterpart trounced England 3-1. Now the Indian men team will play against the winners of the Romania-Italy encounter while the women team will take on Australia.

Duvarah informed that if the Indian teams can win their next matches they will manage to be in between the 25th to 28th spot in the world. Teams from number 1 to 24 are in the champions group and they play for the world title. India is yet to reach that elite category and this year, it is the best performance of the Indian teams in the World Championship. The Indian men�s and women�s team are placed 34th and 37th in world rankings respectively.
