GUWAHATI, April 28 - Prayas, an Indian classical music programme will be held on May 13 at the Madhavdev International Auditorium, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra under the aegis of tabla wizard Pt Chatur Lal Memorial Society.

The musical concert will feature Kathak exponent Meghranjani Medhi, who will be accompanied on the tabla by Pranshu Chatur Lal and internationally famous duet of sitar and cello by Pt Shubhendra Rao and Saskia Rao De-Haas, who too will be accompanied on the tabla by Pranshu Chatur Lal. The programme will be hosted by Shruti Chatur Lal Sharma, granddaughter of Pt Chatur Lal.

Pt Chatur Lal Memorial Society, a 28-year-old organisation, is holding an interactive and educational Indian classical music concert on the occasion of the 92nd birth anniversary of world renowned tabla maestro Oscar nominee and BAFTA awardee Pandit Chatur Lal to honour his work and legacy. Pandit Chatur Lal, Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan were the first Indian musicians to popularise and give a grand acceptance of Indian classical music to the West in the mid 50s through concerts.

Prayas is a 10-city musical journey which aims to propagate Indian classical music among the common masses where the maestros speak about their performing art or instrument, give an explanation on the mood of ragas and talas, explain how one raga merges into another raga. The last few minutes are followed by an interactive series between the maestros and the audience where the audience will be free to ask any questions they would like to clear. This is the only concert in India where a live question-answer round is held.
