India to attend 9th Forum of BCIM in China

GANGTOK, Jan 18 � The 9th Forum of Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM), on Regional Economic Cooperation is being held at Kunming, in the Yunan Province of China on January 18-19. Delegations from all the four countries will be participating in the Forum.

Founder Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University Prof Mahendra P Lama will present the core and lead paper titled �Cooperation in the BCIM Region: Rethinking Opportunities and Newer Approaches�. Ambassador Eric Gonsalves leads the Indian delegation.

The BCIM Forum, also known as Kunming Initiative was launched in 1999 as a measure of sub-regional cooperation. It has so far held eight meetings in various BCIM countries. The theme of the 9th Forum is �Multi Track Approach: Programmes for Cooperation� where the delegates and other representatives including, from the private sector will discuss economic cooperation, connectivity and socio-cultural exchanges among these four countries, informed a press communique from the Sikkim University today.
