GUWAHATI, Dec 6 - India Show resembling a mini-India got off to a colourful start here today. Participants from all over the country with their array of products are taking part in the event.
The event organised by the Industries and Trade Fair Association of Assam (ITFAA) was inaugurated by Assam Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary at the Veterinary College playground, Khanapara, this afternoon.
All Assam Students� Union (AASU) Chief Adviser Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya and State Bank of India (SBI) Chief General Manager PVSLN Murty were also present in the function.
A cultural troupe from Sri Lanka performed during the India Show�s inaugural ceremony. The event is being organised with the support of the Assam government and will conclude on December 14.
The NF Railway Pavilion with toy train has already become a great attraction for the visiting children.
The pavilion is also showcasing the Make in India initiative taken by the Department concerned.
Participants from Thailand, Bangladesh, Turkey, Malaysia and Singapore are also taking part in the event.
Products ranging from household items, furniture, home-decors, garments, perfumes, jewelleries, toys, artificial flowers, winter garments, food products, dry food products, vehicles, crockery and handloom and handicraft items are being displayed in different stalls.
The handicraft sector sponsored by the Development Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India with its varied range of colourful products is also attracting people, especially women buyers, in droves.
�The Assam sector with its array of indigenous products has turned out to be a great eye catcher. The Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing, Government of Assam, is displaying its products including the Make in India products in its pavilion. The food festival named �Flavours of India� is offering mouthwatering dishes ranging from Assamese recipes like fish, laroo, pitha, etc. cooked at the venue. There are also dishes from Punjab, Bengal, South India, Rajasthan and many other States,� Rajesh Das, Vice President, ITFAA, said.
The organising committee along with the North East Food Forum will organise a cooking competition at the venue. The forum is planning to organise the competition by inviting reputed chefs and personalities as judges.
There will also be two seminars during the event. On December 8 at 5 pm, a discussion on global connectivity and economic growth with special focus on Assam will be held at the Mamoni Raisom Goswami Bhawan at the India Show venue.
On December 10, another seminar on the revival of the Assamese film industry will be held at the same venue at 5 pm. Prominent personalities from the Assamese film industry will take part in the discussion.
