India Club to host AITA tourney

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 � India Club, the leading sports organisation of the entire north-eastern region, will host the 4th India Club AITA Championship, for boys and girls U-16, at its club courts here from January 20 to 23.

Explaining about the championship India Club president Prashanta Das and tournament director Gaurav Chowdhury said, more than 130 players from all over the country are expected to take part in the meet which has been counted as one of the important tournaments of the country as far point is concerned.

The top two players will get 25 and 20 rating points respectively. Accordingly, players who will cross the first hurdle will also earn points.

Das revealed that there will be no qualifying round and all the players, who will sign on tomorrow, will get direct entry to the main draw.

Choudhury informed that top players of the country like V Vignesh (Delhi), Chandrakant (Delhi), Basu Cheterjee (Kolkata), Parikhit Somani (Assam) will be seen in action during the four-day meet. From Assam, leading players like Priyana Kalita, Ankit Kashyap, Raunak Bora, Ronit Bora also have confirmed their participation.

Apart from ranking points, players will be given scholarship money. A total amount of Rs 51,000 is at stake as scholarship money, informed Das.
