India Club to host AITA meet

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - India Club will host the 6th India Club All India Tennis Association (AITA) Championship Series for U-14 Boys and Girls from October 17 to 21 at its own courts here.

Announcing this in a press conference today the chairman of the organising committee Shankar Dutta Lahkar revealed that the aim of holding the tournament is basically to provide national level exposure to upcoming players of the State.

�Rubbing shoulders with the leading players of the other State our youngsters will have the opportunity to garner experience and will be able to measure their standard,� said Lahkar.

The tournament carries valuable AITA ranking points with the champion securing 25 points and runner-up pocketing 20 points. Accordingly the two semifinalists will get 15 points each. Points will be awarded to the first round losers also.

Around 100 players from all over the country will be vying for the top honours with the sizable participants from the northeastern region. These two tournaments are being powered by Oil India Ltd, Numaligarh Refinery Ltd, Maruti Suzuki India Pvt Ltd, Binod Nissan Motors Pvt Ltd, Airtel, Purbanchal Cement Ltd, Cent Ply, Ashoka Furnishing Pvt. Ltd, Sujata Bonded Warehouse, Industrial And Firm Equipments, Rahee Track Technology, Guna Tamuly Phukan (Hemolata Heritage) and Janambhumi Group among others.
