India-China talks on border issue

NEW DELHI, Nov 30 � Ahead of the next round of Special Representative (SRs) level discussion on resolving the Indo-China boundary issue, the second meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs concluded here today.

The Indian delegation was lead by Joint Secretary (East Asia) Gautam Bambawale and comprising representatives of the Ministries of External Affairs, Defence and Home Affairs as well as members of the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

The Chinese delegation was lead by Ambassador Wang Xiaodu, Special Representative, Department of Boundary and Oceanic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and comprised of representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and National Defence of the People�s Republic of China. The Chinese delegation called on Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai.

An official statement said the two delegations reviewed developments in the Indo-China border areas since the first meeting of the Mechanism and acknowledged that peace and tranquillity continued to be maintained due to the efforts of both sides. The two delegations also exchanged ideas on additional measures for maintaining peace and tranquillity, as well as further steps to build greater trust and confidence between the two sides.
