Include Assam tableau in R-Day parade: BJP

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, on Tuesday demanded inclusion of the tableau from Assam in the Republic Day parade at any cost. President of the party Sarbananda Sonowal in a press statement alleged that the tableau of Assam highlighting the arrival of Sukapha in the State was rejected because of its distorted presentation.

Sonowal warned that the people of Assam would not tolerate any such disrespect towards the heroes of the soil and insisted that the Government of Assam do the needful to ensure the inclusion of the tableau with all the necessary corrections.

On the other hand, Sonowal alleged that fundamentalists forces were proliferating in the State because of the Congress Government. He said that the despite repeated assurances, the Congress Government has not fenced the border which has encouraged fundamentalist forces from Bangladesh to intrude into Assam.

AASU demand: Asking the State and the Union governments to ensure the inclusion of the tableau from Assam in the Republic Day parade at New Delhi, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) today lambasted the State government for giving distorted information about the Ahom king Sukapha.

The blunder of the State Government, which provided distorted facts about Chaulung Sukapha, has led to the rejection of the tableau, which highlighted the arrival of Sukapha in Assam, a statement from the students body mentioned.

Since the same political party is in power at the Centre and the State and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself represents Assam in the Parliament, the inclusion of Assams tableau should be ensured at any cost, the statement added.
