Improvised Shishu Sarothi products this Diwali

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 The coming festival of lights is going to witness more developed products like Diwali diyas, candles and other items from Shishu Sarothi, Centre for Rehabilitation and Training for Multiple Disability.

The reason behind it is that the children of Shishu Sarothi took part in a three-day product design workshop, which was conducted with the main objective of developing and enhancing the products, especially Diwali diyas and gift hampers.

Every year the students of Shishu Sarothi decorate thousands of earthen lamps just before the festival season. The products, embellished with myriad hues, bear the stamp of dedication and hard work of the students of the rehabilitation centre.

The initiative gives an opportunity to the students to let the world know they too can participate in creative activities and also generate revenue. It needs mention that the products are made by the students at Shishu Sarothis pre-vocational unit. This engagement benefits the students, as their concentration level improves.

Rita Chawchharia, a designer, along with Madhu Goenka, came down to conduct this workshop where the teachers and the students were the participants. Various gift items like colourful diyas, floating candles, readymade rangolis and gift hampers for the upcoming festival season were prepared at the workshop.

Our students are gifted. They just need love and care and direction to achieve great things, said Saswati Barman of Shishu Sarothi, adding that this festival season the products will have a new look as the students have been given training on designs for the first time.
