Imphal set to host sub jr ranking badminton

IMPHAL, July 20 - Manipur is all set to host the Yonex Sunrise All India Sub-Junior (U-15 and U-17) Ranking Badminton Tournament at the Indoor stadium of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal from July 21 to 27.

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar, who is the president of the Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) said a good number of players from various parts of the country, including many top seeded players, will take part in the meet.

Qualifying rounds will be held before the main draw to be started from July 24. The MBA secretary Shyamkumar said around 30 players from Manipur are undergoing intensive training at various academies including the Gopichand Academy and Prakash Padukone Academy.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has congratulated Maisnam Meiraba Luwang for clinching the U-19 singles title at the White Night Russian Junior International Tournament at St Petersburg, Russia last week.
