IMPHAL, Dec 15 - All Imphal-based daily newspapers will blank their editorials in their December 16 editions and will also close down their usual publication on December 17 as a mark of protest against threats by armed groups to media.
This was decided during a joint emergency meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists� Union (AMWJU) and Editor�s Guild Manipur (EGM) held at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Tuesday, sources said.
Daily news bulletins, aired on popular local cable channels will also stopped from 6 am of December 16 till 6 am of the following day supporting the decision taken by the AMWJU and EGM, according to a joint statement signed by presidents of the AMWJU and EGM.
It may be mentioned here that on Monday night, unidentified persons planted a hand grenade at the residential gate of an editor of a TV channel. Inside the bag, which contained the grenade, was also a piece of paper scrawled with the words: �Respected Tamo Rupachandra, Editors� Guild, Manipur, Please do not be biased. Treat all equally, Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Joint Committee�.
