GUWAHATI, June 30 � In a major operation, the City police today busted a gang which was impersonating as BIEO officials to extort money from certain big retail establishments.
A person named Sandip Dey, who is an advocate by profession, was nabbed by the police even as the ringleader is on the run and efforts are on to nab him.
Police said the gang was using fake BIEO letters to threaten business establishments to pay up money or face action from investigating authorities. The ringleader claimed to be an ACP of BIEO.
The advocate used to visit the various establishments and hand over the letters. He was nabbed from Sohum Emporia located at Bhangagarh. A case was registered in this connection.
