By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 26 - The Kamrup (Metro) district administration will go for an impact study of this year's Ambubachi Mela to figure out its overall socio-economic impact and the future potential of the annual event for the city.

Spiritual tourism and its overall influence in the city and its impact on the existing socio-economic infrastructure will be factored. Market-driven response and the crowd pattern will be analysed. In future we have to take the Mela to a higher level to accommodate various needs of the visiting pilgrims, said Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro).

He said that the popularity of the Mela, including the possibility of promoting Guwahati as a spiritual tourism destination which can be used for socio-economic growth of the city, will be analysed.

We will be making proper study of each and every aspect of its influence within society and overall economic growth of the city. We want to study overall facilities provided to the pilgrims and the gap areas too. Scientific documentation of the entire Mela and its impact on the existing infrastructure will be made, said the DC.
