TINSUKIA, Feb 5 � Several organisations here staged protests on Wednesday by burning the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the description of the people of the North-east as �immigrants� by the BJP in its Vision Document released for the ensuing Delhi Assembly elections.

Activists of the Tinsukia unit of the Brihattar Asomiya Yuba Mancha also tore down and burnt the posters, hoardings and flags of the BJP displayed for the forthcoming Tinsukia Municipal Board election at Thana Chariali.

Meanwhile, Pranjal Rajkonwar, president of All Tai Ahom Students� Union (ATASU), in a statement, urged all the BJP MPs from Assam to resign in deference to the sentiments of the people of Assam as well as the North-east.

North Lakhimpur: North Lakhimpur witnessed widespread protests by various organisations against the terming of North-eastern people living in Delhi as immigrants in the Vision Document of the BJP. Protest marches were taken out by the Lakhimpur district unit of the NSUI and District Youth Congress on Wednesday. The protesters shouted anti-BJP slogans and condemned the party for its anti-NE term in the poll manifesto for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly polls.

The protesters also burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later, the North Lakhimpur unit of the AASU took out a torch rally shouting slogans.

Golakganj: More than 100 activists of the Dhubri district unit of the AGP staged a protest at the AGP office in Dhubri on Wednesday against the BJP. �We are Indians and no one should alter our identity. The BJP has no knowledge of the North-eastern region,� the president of the Dhubri district unit of the AGP, Amal Saha said.
