Immediate relief to storm-hit people: Rio

DIMAPUR, May 15 - Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has issued a directive to extend immediate relief to people affected by the severe cyclonic storm on Monday which affected Dimapur, Kiphire, Phek, Wokha and Tuensang districts.

�Restoration of power, telecommunication and roads are to be done on a war footing, especially in the districts of Kiphire, Phek, Tuensang and Dimapur,� the Chief Minister�s official Twitter handle stated.

In Kiphire, one person was killed in the cyclonic storm and two others were injured.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), in a release issued by the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Rovilato Mor, today provided an initial assessment of the damage caused in the districts.

It said in Dimapur district, 15 houses were damaged including a market and a school. Around 180 houses and three schools were damaged in Kiphire district. In Phek district, one house was severely damaged, while 20 houses were damaged in Wokha district. Thirty-two houses were damaged in Tuensang district.

The NSDMA said immediate relief was being provided to the affected people in all the districts.
