Illegal petrol sale a lucrative business

By Correspondent

RANGIYA, Nov 9 - Illegal sale of petrol on roadside remains a lucrative business in Rangiya subdivision, particularly at small paan or stationery shops.

In consideration of the risk factor because of the high inflammable quality of petrol, the local administration has already put a ban on its loose sale. However, the small shop owners purchase petrol at actual rates, adulterate the product with kerosene or such other liquids, and finally put it up for sale in one or two litre water bottles on the roadsides at much higher rates.

Though, the local administration had issued an order of ban on such loose sale of petrol, the practice is on in the open under the nose of the police and local administration.

It worth mentioning that, petrol from Bhutan can be procured at a lower rate, so those involved in this business mostly get the fuel from the neighbouring country and sell it at a higher rate to the customers making a good business for them and posing a threat to others. The administration needs to carry out sudden inspections at all those places, trace out the facts and book anyone involved in this business, said a local requesting anonymity.
