JALUKBARI, Sept 12 - A B Tech first year student of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG), committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her hostel room after her roommate had left for class this morning.
According to sources, the student, Nageshwari SC, was a boarder of Dhansiri Hostel. She was from Karnataka. Police investigation is on.
Meanwhile, the PRO of IITG has ruled out study pressure to be the reason behind the suicide because the student had joined the institution only in July this year. He added that the police had recovered a handwritten note, but it could not be ascertained whether it was a suicide note or not. Her parents have been informed and they are on their way to Guwahati, he added.
However, according to sources at the Amingaon Police Outpost, a suicide note was found where it was written that it was better to die than fail the expectations of her parents and other members of he family. The body has been sent to the GMCH for autopsy.
