SHILLONG, Oct 18 - Students from Indian Institute of Management, Shillong (IIM) conducted the first free Mathematics coaching class for school students on Saturday to honour Dr APJ Abdul Kalams passion for teaching.

The coaching programme christened Nurturing Minds was conducted here with 30 students from three schools H Elias, Presbyterian and Dinet School. The students were split into two groups and each group was managed by three-four volunteers. The topics chosen for the day were Mensuration and Algebra.

The volunteers used innovative teaching aid and utilised the infrastructural facilities available in the classroom to make the session fun and informative during the two-hour coaching session.

IIM, Shillong has announced the programme on the occasion of Dr Kalams birth anniversary on October 15. It was decided that school students of Class VII would be provided the coaching every Saturday.

Meanwhile, one of the objectives of the coaching programme is to teach the subject adopting unconventional teaching methods. The other objective of the programme is to connect with the local community, give back to the society and carry forward Dr Kalams love for teaching.
