GUWAHATI, Aug 31 � Along with the rest of the country, the auspicious and festive occasion of Idd-ul-Fitre was celebrated with fervour by the Islamic community in the State.
The festival, which is also an occasion to share and exchange goodwill and gifts, created an atmosphere of merriment as people from other religions also participated in the festivities.
In keeping with their ritual, members of the Islamic community, old and young sporting colourful caps assembled at mosques and iddgahs and offered prayers and soon after they greeted each other creating an ambience of camaraderie.
The imams led the Idd prayers at different iddgahs and masjids in the capital city.
Throughout the day people visited friends and neighbours and shared various delicacies. The poor and the downtrodden were also included in the festivities as they too received gifts and money.
