IMPHAL, March 10 Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today left for the national Capital to meet All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership after the newly-elected Congress candidates in the Assembly polls had entrusted the AICC President to select the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader to form a new government in the State.

The Chief Minister along with his MLA wife O Landhoni took a morning flight for New Delhi while senior Minister Phunzathang Tonsing and State Congress Committee President (MPCC) Vice President AK Mirabai followed him, reports said.

The Chief Ministers move came two days after several Congress leaders including MPCC President Gaikhangam and senior Minister Yumkham Erabot, air dashed to New Delhi to meet AICC leaders.

We are waiting for the selection of a new CLP leader as the ball is in the court of AICC, said a Congress leader camping in New Delhi.

The Congress retained power after the party got the absolute majority in the Manipur polls by winning 42 seats in the house of 60.

Meanwhile, there are reports that some of the newly elected Trinamool Congress MLAs have returned from Kolkata today. However, the details of their visit is not known.

Trinamool and Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) had done well in the recent polls by winning seven and five seats respectively. Though some of the MSCP leaders have expressed their desire to sit in opposition at a reception of the five newly elected MSCP candidates here on Thursday, Trinamool is yet to announce their stand.

Interestingly, the Nagaland- based Naga Peoples Front which became the second largest regional political party in the State by bagging four seats, has also remained silent till date.
