Ibobi opposes �alternate arrangement� for Nagas

IMPHAL, June 26 � Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Saturday said that his government will not accept the �Alternative Arrangement� for Naga areas in the State and asserted that the question did not arise on the issue for the State Government had made its stand clear to the public.

He said the government has already expressed its decision on the issue and the government still holds firm on its decision.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Ibobi said �In a democracy, demands can be lodged either with the Centre or the State�.

A Cabinet meeting of the ruling Secular Progressive Front Government here recently decided to send State Chief Secretary- led team of officials to attend the forthcoming tripartite talks between the representatives of UNC, State and Central officials to be held at Senapati, on June 30 next.

The Chief Minister replying to questions further informed that the State Government has asked for the agenda of the meeting.

UNC, a Naga civil society organisation in Manipur has been demanding an �alternative arrangement� for the Nagas living in Manipur after their Senapati meeting last year saying that Nagas will sever all political ties with the Government of Manipur.
